Eleven (and a bit more) weeks grown

Time for a progress report…

Tuesday was probably the most horrible day yet – I was emotional and sick and felt very sorry for myself. Tuesday night was just as yuck, with constant nausea and bouts of vomiting every few hours. When Pink M arrived early Wednesday morning and I started playing it down, she told me to stop trying to be a fucking superhero and she booked a doctors appointment for that afternoon.

Pink M was right, of course. At the doctors we discovered I had lost 5.5kgs, which is more than 8%. Throw in another couple of not so good factors and it was off to the hospital for us.

More tests brought more confirmation of Pink M’s superiority. Unhappy electrolytes, not enough of this, too much of that.. Oh dear! Thankfully after some IV goodness and a decent sleep over night I was able to go home the next morning.

I have definitely learnt my lesson and I will not ignore what my body is telling me again. I did not let it get out of hand on purpose – years of ballet and performing arts training taught me how to push my body further than I should – but that is no excuse. It is not just my body now, it is Baby’s home, too.

Pink M – I am sorry for taking my body for granted. Thank you for the verbal slap I needed.. There will be no more fucking superhero acts from me!

From Dr Seuss

Posted in Random tagged at 1:24 pm by boulanger

When I turned my phone on this morning it beeped with a message from Pink M, Blue M and Dr Seuss…

“I told Blue M of our breathless moment, he put on his red and white striped hat, twitched his whiskers and said – Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

Ten (and a bit) weeks grown

Posted in 1st Trimester tagged , , , at 7:34 pm by boulanger

There’s not much news this week.

Morning sickness is still 24/7 and all together not nice. It is taking most of our collective energy to keep up with the bits of routine life that are filtering through, in between vomiting.

We have at least discovered that like Blue M, Baby loves tic tacs. Particularly the orange ones. I have eaten an entire packet of them today, and I usually can’t stand them.

The BBQ for Baby has been set for the 11th of next month. We sent the invites around via email (mostly) and there was a moment after we hit the send button where Pink M and I were hit by the reality of making our baby announcement. It has become so normal for us we sometimes forget that surrogacy is not something everyone understands or appreciates and while we don’t expect the people close to us to have ‘issues’, the idea of going public caught our breath for a second.

But it was only a brief moment and the fact that we had it together somehow made it that much easier to move on from.

A moment later we rang Blue M to tell him we’d set the date for July 12th and then collapsed into fits of laughter.

Then I threw up and Pink M threw me the tic tacs. I guess really, we are learning to work vomiting into the routine of life. Clever, maybe – but hopefully not for much longer! We are fast approaching the 12 weeks mark and we have all decided this will be the magic “off” switch.

Got that Baby?

Good.

Please keep up the chocolate eating so I don’t have quite so much catching up to do when we like food again in 2 weeks!

Nine Weeks Grown

Posted in 1st Trimester tagged , , , at 7:00 pm by boulanger

This afternoon when Pink M and I sat down to write this up date she said, “Holey cow, nine weeks already! It seems like only yesterday we got the two pink lines!”

I looked at her and threw up.

Oh yeah, time is really flying in the Boulanger house. Not!

Our morning ritual has changed from:

Wake up, feed small child, go outside to feed the animals, come back inside for breakfast, to:

Wake up, vomit, feed small child, vomit, go outside to fertilise the garden with more vomit, come back inside and hold my breath while making breakfast, eat food, regurgitate food for the amusement of children, call Pink M to complain about how much her baby dislikes food, vomit some more just to make my point.

It’s OK though, because honestly, we’re loving every (other) minute of it.

Blue M decided he wanted in on the baby action so we took him baby shopping today. The baby clothes he was not so wrapped with. The prams, however – the prams were a whole different story. He spent THREE HOURS walking around stores trying out different buggies. He even borrowed a child’s doll so he could test the harnesses. He strapped it in and went tearing around corners trying to make the doll fall out, with a 50 point bonus if it’s head came off on impact.

Each pram was given a rating out of 10 for handling at a walk, handling at a run, cornering, aesthetics, and of course – sex appeal. These scores were averaged out for an overall ranking, which was then recorded in Blue M’s note book. They were recorded because after three hours of Pink M and I trying to make him feel included, Blue M said, “Oh I don’t want to actually buy one today. This is just research.”

We really wanted to hit him, but we went shopping for maternity clothes and hit his credit card instead.

With 3 weeks to go before we can ‘safely’ announce our pregnancy to the wider community, we have started planning a BBQ so we can tell everyone together. Blue M wants to make the speech and he told us today what he was thinking of saying…

“Something simple, like.. Hey folks, guess what? I knocked up Boulager!”

So Blue M is not allowed to give the speech any more and Pink M is even considering giving him the wrong date for the BBQ.

Seeing as this post has been lots about Blue M and his antics, let’s keep the theme going!

This is a relatively old story, but it still cracks me up and some of you won’t have heard it.

A couple of weeks ago M&M were all set to go and speak at an infertility support group for couples. Blue M had seen a notice for this group and he thought it might be a good thing for him and Pink M to do together. He rang and spoke to the organiser who was very keen to have them along and asked if they would be willing to speak about their story – best friend having their baby etc etc.

Pink M agreed to go along, but when she got there she was overcome with hysterical laughter.

Blue M had signed them up for an infidelity support group.

On that note….

Nothing else to report for this week.

Please keep eating lots of chocolate for us!

Fast forward to 8 weeks

Posted in 1st Trimester tagged , , at 12:34 pm by boulanger

This week has been a pretty eventful week for us!
Baby is still pummelling the morning sickness button and after more bleeding and cramping, first time parents M&M we almost ecstatic when we decided to see our doctor (again!). As luck is always on our side, our doctor just happened to be filling in for another doctor, on a Saturday, at a clinic with ultrasound facilities, AND there was a cancellation. Nice work, universe.
Baby is fine, of course, and spirits are soaring again – Especially after seeing Baby’s heartbeat!

We also realised that our time line is out by two weeks. I forgot that you count the two weeks before fertilisation, so Baby is actually 8 weeks grown, not 6 weeks. In my defense, the whole surrogate / IVF process can be slightly confusing and even the doctor had to think about it for a minute!

The Boulanger kids are still enjoying the Baby excitement. Their mum being somewhat out of action with morning sickness hasn’t bothered them in the slightest. In fact, they quite enjoy trying to feed me strawberries – So I will make pink vomit.

Thankfully work is slow for me at the moment and Pink M has been able to work from (my) home – This is saving us a fortune in phone conversations!
It also means Pink M can be closer to Baby, I can stress less about keeping up with the Boulanger kids and we all get to share the excitement, so it’s definitely a win win. Blue M is a little intimidated by all the girl power, but who could blame him?! Maybe we will buy him a dress to help him feel more welcome.

That’s about all for this update. I’m thinking it would be nice to aim for weekly posts, unless there is something really exciting in between. (Which there probably will be. lol)

So until next time, please eat lots of chocolate for me!

Dear Baby

Posted in Pink M tagged , , , at 1:45 pm by boulanger

Dear Baby,

We saw your heart beating today.

I can’t say we know you well, but your heart glows.

I can tell, you’re beautiful, your spirit is a treasure.

Baby, please know,

No matter how we arrived at this moment

Nor where we go from here,

Just being near you is an honour and a pleasure.

Baby universe,

Your every heart beat is an exploding star.

You are magic. Mesmerising.

I can feel you where you are.

First Post

Welcome to our blog!

For the next 8 months (approx.) this is going to be something of an online diary as M&M’s baby grows in Boulanger’s (my) tummy.

M&M don’t have a computer at home, so I’m going to be doing most of the posting for all of us. WordPress is new to me, so hang in there while the creases get ironed out. Also, this blog is for the purpose of recording Baby’s growth and our journey bringing him or her into the world. We would like to share this with others because it is such a joyous experience, so if it brings you joy to read about then welcome aboard! If this is something you don’t wish to experience, then please leave and have a nice day.

Now for an update, or more of a to date, really…

We are at 5 weeks and 3 days grown already!

I had some cramping and bleeding last week, but don’t panic! Baby is fine. We suspect the second embryo that was transferred decided not to stick around, so Baby won’t be sharing a womb. Typical really – M&M are both terrible at sharing!

Bets are already being placed on Baby’s gender. Blue M thinks she is a girl, Pink M and I think he is a boy, and naturally Pink M and I are heavy favourites to win. We have decided to find out Baby’s gender at the 20 week ultrasound, so we still have 15 weeks left before we can cash in our winnings. Until then, I’ll refer to Baby as both “him” and “her” in posts because say “him or her” all the time gets annoying. (Does that make sense?)

Also a new development last week – Baby has found the morning sickness button! I hope he finds the “off” button soon too, as it’s been stuck on “24 hours” for the last week. Blah.

We were going to wait until the 12 week mark before telling the boulanger girls (my children) about Baby, but we realised pretty quickly that we both wanted and needed to tell them straight away. We have talked to them all along about how their god parents are going to make a baby and I am going to grow it for them because Pink M’s body can’t – Our only hesitation in telling them as soon as Baby gave us two pink lines was: what if baby went away?

It didn’t take long for us to get over the “what if’s”, and now the boulanger girls get to share the excitement, too.

That’s all for now. I’m not sure how regular posts will be, but we’re looking forward to sharing our stories as they unfold :)
